Who we are

The Hedgehog Program is an educational platform that conducts non-scientific research based upon information that you as our visitor provide to us. This happens through our surveys, submission forms or even the registry if you are a registrant there. No worries, this does not mean we collect a lot of personal information. We are dedicated to protecting you from fraud and cybercrime and only collect what really is neccesary! Further down in this policy, you will also see how you can minimise your own personal information in our registry and the forum.

All 5 of our websites are protected very well and designed in such a way, that we only collect what is really neccesary. If you are a registrant in our registry, your personal information is stored offline and out of reach from cybercriminals! The menu’s of these websites are intertwined, to make your experience as smooth and pleasant as possible. Our websites are devided in the following manner:

The Hedgehog Program –
This is the main website where you find information about the company, our online courses, our researches and educational articles about hedgehogs and tenrecs. You also find the links towards the research database, the registry, the forum and the webshop in the menu.
The research database –
The database provides more detailed information on our researches as well as displaying the surveys, submission forms and the databases with anonymised information. This data is public, because we believe others can do their own studies aside from ours to gain even more knowledge about these animals. Above all, that is why The Hedgehog Program exists and what is our most important goal! The data in the tables therefore is free to use, commercially or privately as long as you credit us for the provided data. You can check our (credentials page) for more information about this.
The webshop –
The webshop holds our physical and digital product you can buy. We even have a range of free to download digital content to help educate new owners and breeders alike.
The forum –
The forum is a PhPbb based one, where members can discuss a range of topics about hedgehogs and tenrecs after registering. The forum has an additional privacy policy, which you can read here. Also please read the terms & conditions of the forum.
The Hedgehog Program Registry –
Also called THPR for short, the registry is where members can sign up for free and become a registrant to register their hedgehogs for a small fee or subscribe to register unlimited amount of hedgehogs without any additional costs. After registering hedgehogs, information can be added to each hedgehog for free, also by the new owner of the hedgehog. Each member has their own profile with a blog wall and the option to become friends with other members and send private messages amongst eachother.

There are a few different ways in which we collect your personal information.

In your profile you can add other personal information that will be stored in the website’s database, this information is not mandatory and won’t be asked for, but can be provided voluntarily. This applies to all accounts on either of our websites. When you register as a registrant on THP registry, we will also ask for your full name, adress, email adress and phone number so we can register you in our pedigree software and apply an affix to your account. We also use this information for billing, if applicable. Owners of hedgehogs won’t be registered with personal information aside from the information needed for their own account.

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection. An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it.
